Industry has clear expectations and demands of graduates leaving university: Their most important skill is the ability to work in teams, followed by self-management, involvement, and the ability to communicate. Technical know-how ranking in fifth place is taken for granted (cf. the DIHK Study, 2008). Primarily, therefore, "soft skills" going beyond technical know-how are the key to success.
Our Manual on Key Skills shows students how to prepare during their studies at university for the overriding challenges they will be facing in their professional career. We describe the most important skills and recommend specific lines of action in acquiring and practicing such skills. And we offer tips for successfully applying for an internship, working as a works student, or entering industry directly.
In the Manual leaders in industry state how they made their way as entrepreneurs or executives. Whether an individual's career takes him into the corporate world or whether he establishes his own enterprise, one thing is clear: key skills are absolutely vital!
