The business need appeared to Christian Deilmann, tado°'s co-founder and CPO, while he was studying in Boston, US: the air conditioners in his shared flat were either switched on all day, ensuring that he and his flatmates came back to a nice cool home, or only switched on when the first person returned to a hot humid flat. Back in Germany, he experienced the same issue with heating. To develop a solution for this dilemma - to either constantly keep the temperature constant or switch the heating on and off - he teamed up with his fellow student Johannes Schwarz. tado° was born.

One third of the energy consumed around the world is used for the heating and cooling of buildings. The European Commission finds that in the EU, 79% of total household energy use stems from heating and hot water, with often outdated technology operating the systems. tado°‘s mission is to reduce home energy consumption through the use of state-of-the-art technology whilst maintaining comfort.
